I’m back!

Hear that tip-tip-tipping? It’s me at the keyboard again. Yay!!!

I hardly wrote at all in August. I read like a fiend, and gardened and painted and cooked and slept and worked out at the gym. I drank lemonade. I weeded (not enough) and picked up a couple sticks. I didn’t get to refinish the table, but a girl has to have a fall project, too. I saw some gorgeous sunsets, and hung out with our kids and my parents. Ran a couple 5-ks and had my butt kicked by the humidity. Read some Faulkner. I guess you could say I relaxed.

And now it is autumn. The tips of the leaves up here have been showing color for a couple weeks, and our farmer neighbors are selling apples. Nights are almost cold enough for a fire in the fireplace. I adore this season.

What was the best thing that happened to you all summer?

  1. I taught a bunch of writers’ workshops, introduced scholarships and brought city kids to our summer program, wrote my thesis, got my M.A., bought an apartment. But right now I feel like the best thing that can possibly happen is the end of this summer and the beginning of some sort of normal sleep, work, exercise, and eating schedule.

  2. I stayed up until 4:00 AM one morning playing Champions of Norrath with my 21-year-old daughter. There’s nothing like hacking your way through ghoul-infested dungeons, fighting side by side with ax and arrow, to bond a father with his daughter. I’m a lucky guy.

  3. I went to California for a week with my family. It was amazingly pretty (especially in San Diego). Too much traffic though, lol.

What kind of reading did you get gone? Anything good?

  4. Since it was the summer before I left for college (the first in my group of friends), I spent the summer hanging out with them, staying up all night, going to Ihop at 4 in the morning, swimming at midnight, learning to play “classic” video games (and getting my butt kicked), and lots and lots and lots of talking.

    It was a fantabulous summer.

  5. Fall is my favorite season. Its so besutiful.

The best thing that has happened to me this summer would have to be me meeting this guy, Donde. My summer hasnt been the best but that has definately been the highlight.

  6. The best thing, besides seeing both Dave Matthews Band and Lyle Lovett in concert: Three agents asked to see my first manuscript. Now if even one of them would just get back to me. Even rejection letters would be nice at this point… 🙂

  7. The Best Thing That Happened to Me All Summer

    Well…
    (a) I went to London and saw red double-decker buses, uniforms, and mailboxes. They are very fond of red there.
    (b) I didn’t get suspended for an incident involving thievery, a cell phone, and somebody from a completely different social circle.
So my summer was pretty enjoyable.

  9. sigh

I love fall, especially October since that when the leaves change colors and it starts getting cold down here.

I finished a short story that I think I’ll send in to a contest. I got to read a lot. I got a job, so now I have money. I made new friends at band camp and World Changers. I got to spend a lot of time with my boyfriend before he went to college.

  10. My parents let me get a dog, that’s the best thing that happened to me all summer. I got her on my last day of school.

  11. best thing that happened to me all summer…

I know this is a late comment, but the best thing that happened to me all summer was being able to see a good friend that I thought I wasn’t going to see for a long time. =) (And I hope I get to see YOU sometime this year too because I miss you!) =) ♥
