  1. I went to this amazing Napoleon exhibit at the Florida Museum of Natural History in Tallahassee. The title of the exhibit is “Napoleon: An Intimate Portrait.” It is ginormous, and the entire exhibit belongs to a personal collector. There are things like a lock of Josephine’s hair, the coat sleeve of his First Consul coat, the pillow he kneeled on when he crowned himself emperor, and a cast of his infant son’s hand and wrist. It was absolutely amazing what this man has collected.

  3. Got some writing done myself

I was able to get the first chapter of my novel done. (In between laundry and chores and such.)
Anyone interested can click on my LJ name here and it should take you right to the journal. Comments welcome.

  5. I’m in the midst of one of those periods when it feels like if I were to call in sick at work and skip all my classes and give up eating, sleeping, and exercising and work straight through til next month, I still wouldn’t make much of a dent in the pile. I know I’ll manage somehow, but I hate the sensation of doing one task just well enough to be able to go on to the next. The weekend was productive, but not in a satisfying way.

  7. I finished a chapter of my book! Only four chapters to go (hopefully)! I made a goal to finish a chapter (unedited, for now) a week. By this time next month, I should be in the editing process! Yippee! Oh, and we went to eat for my birthday and watched “Buffy the Vampire Slayer)– the movie, not the show.

  9. My weekend was amazing.

I saw my favorite band play. I was standing with my best friends and beautiful music was surrounding me. My heart felt like it was going to burst with beauty. The entire world outside that room was nonexistant. I was blushing and my stomach held a stampede of dinosaurs. My face held the cheeiest grin. I can’t remember ever feeling so happy or like everything was so right with the world. I felt so blessed and grateful. The entire night was perfect.

It was infinite (I hope you catch that reference ;))

  11. Speak?

Hey Laurie, I was wondering if you know if Speak the movie is available to buy in Canada or if it’ll be on tv. I know it was on in the us, so I either missed it or it wasn’t on tv in Canada yet. Anyway, thanks so much if you reply.

  15. Re: Speak?

I have no idea what the situation is in Canada. You should be able to buy it through Amazon, if your local video store doesn’t have it.

  17. fantastic

see Avalon high was inspired by the legends of king Arthur and the Lady of Shalott who really turned out to be the lady of the lake. It was very tasteful I liked how it kind of connected to this one poem about the lady of shalott and how the main character notices all these similarities between her and her friends and their legendary counterparts. the Mediator is also excellent about a 16 year old named Suze whose been cursed/blessed with the power to see and help the dead and it can get a bit messy.

  19. My weekend could have been better…but just before the weekend, i finished writing the first draft of my longest story yet – 4700 words!
(In related news, i found use for a phrase you once wrote: “My first drafts are atrociously bad.”
    Heh.)

  21. Mama Mia, here I go again, my my, how can I resist you?

My weekend was awesome, I went on a mothers/daughters trip to New York on Saturday and I saw Mama Mia. I loved it, nothing can ever beat watching actors dance to ABBA in shiny silver and orange spandex suits. It was amazing.

  23. I went to the Zoo in Syracuse to finally see the penguin exhibit with my parents… but the penguins weren’t out on exhibit!
    I was bummed. :[
They were in their holding pen, so we did get to see them, but I was looking forward to seeing them in their “natural” surroundings, haha.
    It was fabulous, nonetheless.
I got to do job-shadowing there one day this past summer, so I was going around saying “Hey! I went back there!” &other things like that.
Other than the penguins, I wanted to see the tigers the most.. and got to see them. So I was content. :]

  29. Weekend Travels

(coming from an English teacher/reading addict) Went on a TRAINride! My friend and I went to Hangzhou 2 hours south of Shanghai, China. Wandered around replicas of Song dynasty streets, ate local street foods, took ferries to islands on the lake, drank tea at fancy restaurants that only have Chinese characters on the menu (point and hold up a finger for 1, hoping you didn’t order something disgusting), took a cable car to the top of a mountain, etc.
Wishing they had your books over here. I’m getting behind on my reading! 🙁

  31. I read ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’. Amazing.

The only thing I didn’t really like was the fairytale ending, but it’s not a big deal. =)
