Ready to Write?

Twenty-four hours to go until my annual Write Fifteen Minutes a Day (WFMAD) Challenge!!

I feel like a boxer’s trainer, rubbing her shoulders, fanning her with a towel, about to push her to the center of the ring and say “Go get ’em, champ.”

Are any of you taking the plunge a day early? Can’t wait?

I do have one suggestion. It might not sound related to writing, but it is. Go for a long walk today. If you walk with a friend, use the time to talk about your hopes for your writing in the upcoming month. If you walk alone, focus your thoughts on the same thing.

Moving your body is a critical part of the writing process. I’ll talk more about that in the next month.

The other news around here all centers on the upcoming publication of FORGE. (Which happens in 80 days, for those of you counting down at home.) I’ll be getting my booktour details very soon. Should we work out a secret handshake or something for those of you participating in WFMAD who come out to my signings this fall?

Abby the Librarian was able to score an advanced reading copy of FORGE and has written a terrific review about it.

Do YOU want an advanced reading copy of FORGE? Denise Jaden is holding a contest to do exactly that over on her blog. You have until Tuesday to enter. (And seriously – this contest is the sweetest thing ever and I swear I had nothing to do with it, which makes it even sweeter.)

I am ready to write. I need to write. I want to write.
As all, I cannot wait for FORGE to come out.

Question: Is the next book about Jane or Abigal Adams? I remember reading about you doing research, but I do not remember which lady?

    Thanks,
    June (Chorkie)

Thanks for the shoutout, Laurie (and glad to hear you’re enjoying it!)

I wasn’t going to do the writing challenge, since I’m in the middle of revisions, but the secret handshake has won me over. I’m going to do both!

Itching to go for a walk, but silly ankle has picked this week to hurt. Looking forward returning to regular activity asap. Walking does make the mind-body connection work so much better.

Putting the walk on my to do list for this afternoon. I’m definitely joining in with WFMAD. It’s perfect timing–I leave on a weeklong mission trip with youth tomorrow and start school the following week. No longer will I have long summer days to write a couple hours at a time, but I don’t want to quit. I can do 15 minutes! I know I can, I know I can.

Just heard about WFMAD through twitter. I’m in, for the first time – and I think I just dragged my weekly nanowrimo group in with me.

Lovely. Worked perfectly. Just a little push in the morning sends me in the right direction. Now out to weed the gardens.

I plan to write in my journal a little more creatively for your WFMAD! I am excited about it. My first entry will be 100 things I love, which will include 10 activities, 10 restaurants, 10 people, 10 foods, 10 games, 6 drinks/beverages, 4 desserts (although I’m sure I could come up with more than just 4!), 10 paintings, 10 web sites, 10 writers, 10 famous lines from books/movies. I’m pretty sure it will take me more than 15 minutes to write all about those categories. Perhaps, it will take all of the month of August!!

I did it! Actually, I wrote for an hour! With 4 boys, that’s quite a feat! I have been inspired recently by some info about the lives of my grandparents, and I am blogging about my efforts to uncover some information about their previous marriages that were not spoken of until their deaths. I named my blog Love, Cough, and Smoke after Ben Franklin’s saying, “Love, cough, and smoke can’t well be hid.” I’m taking this challenge to keep me movtivated and encouraged to stick with this crazy idea.
