whoa, geeze, didn’t realize books took so long to publish! Great name though, the name in and of itself makes the book more interesting.

I am admiring you and I am a little envious. I wrote myself and published several poems. But my luck didn’t go further . I wrote a very good novel and it seems that the only way will be ever published is by doing it myself. But considering my financial situation is prohibitive. The only way around,I was told, is to find somebody with a”name” to recommend it… Oprah does not accept “unsolicited materials”…Haw did you start publishing your novels ? I gave up, very disappointed , after several years of trying hard…

You are SUCH a tease! Love the title, though — it’s grabby (as in, I’d want to grab it off the shelf to see what it was about.)

Nope, the only way to get published is the hard way. Do your research and find editors or agents who are accepting unsolicited materials. (They do exist.) Go to the library and read every book you can about writing and the publication process. While you’re sending your novel out, try to write and sell stories to magazines or other publications.
I have a file that contains several hundred rejection letters. I still consider myself Queen of the Slush Pile.

Oooooooooooooooooooh. I love titles. Even if the book is a year away, it makes it so much more real. Now when I tell customers to read Speak or one of your other books, I can go “And her new book, TWISTED, will be out next year!” Wheeeeeee!

Me too! I hate long, drawn out titles…One or two words make you think.

Rejections
You were rejected? Several hundred rejections? Really? Does that mean Speak was rejected at some point? Sorry about all of the question marks, but after having read your books, it really is difficult to think LHA actually has a file of rejections. You do a lovely job of making all of your hard work transpire into something that is seamless.
Love your new title. Do not like that we have to wait an entire YEAR to get it, though! Sheesh!

judging by the title, i’m guessing it has to do with with “twisting someone’s mind”.
bah.
hey, i can guess! =P

Re: Rejections
Yep, SPEAK was rejected.
Rejection can be a really good thing if you use it to motivate you to be a better writer.

I can’t wait
I think it’s because of the fact that here on the LJ we know how long twisted has been a WIP but it is getting very hard to have to wait for this book but at least we know the title but your making it so tempting why must you do this to us? why?

ooooooooh, sounds most interesting! I can’t wait to hear more details about the book! My only wish is that I didn’t have to wait a year to clasp my eager hands around another one of your books!!!

How do you come up with the title? Does it just come to you in the middle of the night, or do you have the idea in the back of your mind all along? Great title.

. . . and apparently you enjoy one-word responses, too ^.^
Love the title!
I’m reading Fever now, and i really appreciate the directness & clarity of your writing – which echoes the directness & clarity of the titles of your books. (This gives me, not the clearest of people, a clear excuse as to why i can read YA when i myself am not a YA.)

I usually go through several titles before I hit on the one that resonates. Kind of like buying shoes: “Meh, yawn, ok – i guess, boring, maybe….. OMG MUST HAVE THESE SHOES!!!”
Or title, as the case may be.

Speak, Prom, Catalyst and now Twisted. Great choice of titles. They don’t give away too much and they make the reader think. I like it a lot.
