born into freedom in Virginia. Served in the 1st Virginia regiment of the Continental Army in 1780 and fought at the siege of Fort Ninety-Six and the Battle of Eutaw Springs in South Carolina. His pension application shows that he became a farmer in North Carolina after the war.
