BEA round-up

Three days breathing Javitz Center air have left me feeling a little delirious. But before I self-medicate by planting flowers and working out at the gym, let me share a few BEA pics with you.

Mitali Perkins, Jennifer Donnelly and I did a good job representing YA books at the Indie Choice Book Awards luncheon.

After I won the award for Most Engaging Author (THANK YOU, INDIE BOOKSELLERS!), my daughter Stef worked hard at keeping me humble.

Stef and I were lucky enough to go running with Christopher McDougall, author of BORN TO RUN.

I was very happy to catch up with Sarah Dessen who has been busy criss-crossing the country to support her new book, WHAT HAPPENED TO GOODBYE.

AND I enjoyed a spectacular sushi lunch with my editor, Joy.

I was going to include lots of photos and breathless commentary about the fast-paced bidding and high-pitched drama at the ABFFE art auction. But I was so busy talking and bidding (mostly talking – EVERYONE I know in publishing was there, including Sarah Odedina from Bloomsbury, the British publisher of CHAINS and FORGE), that I didn’t take even one single pic. GAH! You can read a little bit about the auction in Josie Leavitt’s blog. Thank you to everyone who came out and made the night such a success.

(This blog entry has taken nearly three hours to compose, because WordPress is being a jerk, and because my tired brain really wants to be outside.)

BE SURE TO CHECK IN TOMORROW FOR DETAILS ON HOW TO BID ON HAVING ME CRITIQUE YOUR MANUSCRIPT!!! ALL PROCEEDS GO TO HELP THE PEOPLE OF JOPLIN, MO!!

  1. Thanks for the recap! And enjoy your fresh-air gardening, you Most Engaging Author you.

  2. I can’t believe there’s a picture of you and Sarah Dessen. Both of you are my writing role models. I even have a shelf that I call my “Favorites” shelf where it’s your books along with hers. I strive to be as good of writers as you and Sarah Dessen although I’m more partial to your style. Anyway, I love seeing two women I greatly admire together. It looks like you had a great time there and I know what you mean about Javits Center air. I was just there for a graduation.

  3. just found out about you and the kind of writting that you do . I think that I have a wonderful true story of my son at the age of 16 hearing that he was in the late stages (3rd) of testicular cancer. It is a story of trust, love , friendship, hope and never saying never. It is so far having a very happy ending, he is now going to be 24 soon, graduated from college and has a wonderful life a head of him. His school (High School) the football team and his personal trainer are what make this such a wonderful story. The football time did not know him from a hill of beans, he just transfered to that school ,yet they took him in under their wing and the next season he took them all the way to the biggest game of their lives. A trainer that never let him stop training and beliveing in himself and what he could do. A church that held him very close to all their hearts in prayer, thoughts and generousity. A staff of doctors that we just can’t say enough about. I think it would make a wonderful story seeing through the darkness into the light and never giving up. My son has a saying ‘Die to Live’ he did in thoses moments after the doctor told him , and us, then he looked me straight in the eyes and said “Its just a bump in the road and we will get through it!’ I would love to have his story told, i am not good at writting or puting my thoughts on paper. Thank you for your time. Lou ann Daniels 460 county route 29 Oswego, N.Y. 315-343-4734 cell #315 409 6566 if you think this might be worth writing about.
