Today’s chick pic

I am not going to turn into one of those people who posts pictures of cute animals and anthropomorphizes every shake of a beak or flap of a winglet or blink of a beady eye.

I hope.

  1. Baby chicks are really too cute for words! I love the one that looks like it’s checking out it’s shadow!

  2. ADORABLE!!! they look so fuzzy, awww 😀
If I had sixteen chicks right now, I would spend all my time taking photographs and cooing at them

  3. SUCCUMB to the pull of adorableness.

One of my favorite places is the exhibit in the Boston science museum that has a bunch of newborn chicks hatching from eggs. I could stare at them for hours.

  4. Chick pics always welcome, and they won’t last long because, as sure as lambs grow into much less attractive sheep, the chicks grow into hens.

By the way, have you read Jennifer Megyesi’s “The Joy of Keeping Chickens: The Ultimate Guide to Raising Poultry for Fun or Profit”? It’s a very useful guide (I was writing an article on chickens for my local, now-alas-defunct Edible magazine and she was one of my sources.

In my experience, the extra chick is just in case one perishes during shipping. You shouldn’t worry about any of them dying…like children, they are so very resilient. And they are so adorable!

  6. I’m certain you have put in a lot of research, but Jim suggested you watch out for rooster chicks. It was his experience that if you have more than one, they’ll fight to the death.
We have large hatching egg exhibits at the state fair every year, and Jim just goes to find a chair, because I stand and watch and watch and watch. They are so amazing. So much fun.

  7. We paid for all hens, but are well aware that a rooster or two could have snuck in. We’re not up for roosters this year, so we will give them away to some other homesteading friends.

  8. Those of us who already post photos and anthropomorphize salute you for joining our club. I adore looking at the photos. There is something about cute, fuzzy, and yellow that is perfection. And Scout thinks they look delicious!
