  1. Wonderful, wonderful, and yet more wonderful. Blessings on you, your husband, and all the words that will come forth in that beautiful space.

  2. Wow! Absolutely fabulous! Congratulations! And I admit, I’m rather jealous. As I watched you video I had to turn the sound up on my computer so I could hear it over the noise of the shop vac and planner in my husbands basement workshop that is directly under my office!

  3. I cracked up when I saw you and the boards… I belt-sanded, hand sanded and put a finish on every trim board (all local cypress wood) in our house. Something about doing part of it makes it more yours. I love your cottage. The window came out great. The Green Man is so neat.
BTW, we have a tile wall, spaced one inch from the wallboard, behind our wood stove. It collects more of the heat, protects the wall, and Bob also put some stainless steel reflectors behind the pipe to aim the heat more into the room. It looks like it will keep you warm without that, but it’s an idea. Our wood stove is in one corner of the living room and we try to heat the whole house in winter. (Yes we have winter in north Florida…)
Definite blessings on the whole deal.
I read Zoe and loved it. Looking forward to the next book.
I loved that you thanked all the workers and businesses. They did a good job.

  4. oh my goodness!
    It looks absolutely wonderful (:
I can’t believe what a long way it came, I’m sure you are lovingggg it.

that’s a great video too, what a nice way to say thank you.

  5. What a lovely place! I have a husband who does things like this, too — perhaps one day I can persuade him to finish off a small corner of our backyard shed/workshop for me to write in. I’m so happy for you and hope you will find your little cottage a very creatively inspiring and fruitful place!

  6. Absolutely stunning! It truly was a labor of love. And that window…awesome! Congratulations.

  7. Wow! Your writing cottage is just as beautiful as I imagined it would be. It’s such a joy to see you finally writing in there. Although I’ve read every blog entry about this cottage over the past year, seeing all of the steps in its creation together like this is so powerful. May the Magic Window bless you with light, love, and infinite inspiration.

  8. Roald Dahl loved his writing shed, for sure, but it was nothing compared to this one. Even David McCullough has a modest little hut.

Of course, Philip Pullman’s own writing shed has a six-foot stuffed rat, but even that can’t compare to the history, beauty, quality, cutting edge technology, and good ol’ harmonious vibes that surround this exquisite space.

  9. That is awesome. My favorite part? The card catalog… I’m officially requesting a blog post on what’s in there and how you use it for your research.

  10. Wow, that’s just…wow. You truly are blessed and loved to have such an amazing group of people help with creating a writing place all your own.

  11. All over the world, writers are showing this video to their spouses and saying, “Hint, hint!” 😉

Great job by all! Enjoy your new space.

  12. It’s so beautiful and lovingly planned and built that i seriously teared up. Congratulations on having a place of your own, and thanks to the friends and family who help and support your dreams (so you can keep presenting us readers with your amazing works, on your terms).

  13. I’m with Kate. I’d also like to know what you keep in that card catalog. One of the libraries I work in still has a c.c. I love the old c.c.s.

  14. The cottage looks fantastic Laurie!! I’m so happy you and Scot were able to get the major projects finished before the snow starts to fly for the winter!

  15. That is gorgeous and wonderful! I loved seeing how everything came together and what an amazing space! Thanks for sharing (it gives me so much inspiration!!). Here’s to many wonderful inspiring moments and to supportive husbands and friends!

  16. Your Cottage Video…

…make’s it feel all complete now, doesn’t it? And now??? GET IN THERE AND WRITE!!!! please?

    QL :O)

  17. I just showed this to my husband who reminded me that he is a woodworker, not a carpenter, and aspiring blacksmith.

Still, I dream of my cottage.

I wish you the best of writing days in yours.

  18. WOW … that video made me cry. You really are a magnificent storyteller (not that I didn’t know that before).

My favourite part is seeing the rose window, looking out into the forest. Rose windows are such a powerful image to me. I hope that you enjoy your writing cottage and have many more wonderful memories in there!

    🙂 Sarah

  19. It’s gorgeous!

You are so blessed to have such a wonderful husband and friends to help create this beautiful cottage. I cannot wait to read the books you will be inspired to write there.

  20. You may have to change your moniker to the Ecstatic and Blessed Woman in the Forest. {}

To create beneath that soaring sky and time-old trees, to write WITHIN its beauty and not divided by the conventional four walls of a life, is a dream come true.

That window says it all, the infinite possibilities of all you can see, the circles entwined in a never-ending dance of sunlight and stars.

    Long may you create.

    And thank you, Scot Larrabee, for building a dream, line by line, tree by tree. When artists put their hearts and hard work together, there’s beautiful music and magic and mystery in the air– and in the forest. {}

  21. I am teary and grinning from ear to ear at the same time! It’s beautiful, the most perfect writing space for you, Laurie. It’s so easy to imagine the love and wonderful energy that must permeate every inch of it. Scot is amazing.

  22. Your Cottage

I am awestruck by the beauty of that rose window and I am utterly jealous! 🙂 You are right when you say this is every artist’s dream.

  23. Absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing the process with us.

So…how much to rent just a teeny-tiny corner of the cottage? I promise not to bother you!

  24. congrats!

Lucky, lucky you! Love the tag: Best husband in the entire universe. I might arm wrestle you over that one, but hey, I don’t have the cottage yet…

  25. your cottage is sooooooo beautiful and really a special place to write &hearts I just love the big window!

and your husband really is the best husband in the world for building you your own writing cottage. And you are right, he is an artist, too.

  26. Ohhh, I’m so jealous! I’m going to show my husband your cottage and see if I can convince him to at least finish the room above our garage for me.

Your husband is such a talented, wonderful man. How awesome to have a space all your own for your writing.
