Shhhhhh…. want an ARC?

I feel like a literary pusher whispering to passers-by on a street corner when I say this but, ::whispers:: want an ARC of Wintergirls?

There are limited quantities available from my most adored Uncle Penguin. How do you try to score a copy? Head over to the Wintergirls MySpace page. Details are in the blog entry there called “Advance readers copies available.” (And yes, I saw the typo there. No, I am not responsible for it.)

Penmage wrote in to let all of us in the Forest know of her review of WINTERGIRLS. Thank you!

I’ve skipped some of the events here at Kindling Words and did NOT go snowshoeing (though it was tempting) so I could work on my book. This is the part of the writing process that is extremely dull to anyone who is not currently inside my head. I am trying to sort through all of the tangled plot threads and make sure that a) they make sense, logically, b) they are properly motivated by the main character’s emotional state and outside events, and c) they make sense. I feel like I am making progress which is good, but I’m not exactly impressing people with my wit here at the retreat because my eyes keep glazing over as I fade out of conversation and back to that tricky turn of the story in Chapter 6.

A lot of people have written in to ask when the sequel to CHAINS will be released. That’s the book I’m working on right now. Title? FORGE. If all goes well, it should be released in Spring 2010.

When I am done with FORGE, I’ll probably write another YA. I haven’t started hearing a new main character yet, but I suspect he or she will start bugging me later in the spring. I get butterflies in my tummy thinking about it – sort of like knowing that I’m going to go on a year-long blind date, but having no clue about the date’s identity.

I’m off to see if they’re serving breakfast yet.

  2. Wow, the new book sounds amazing. How do you handle writing such intense stories? Sometimes it’s hard enough to read them. I can’t imagine writing them and being in that mind for so long.

  3. Hey, thanks for the heads up! I applied for an ARC. I’m a huge fan of Speak (I doubt you remember, but I met you at the NC SCBWI a few years ago). I look forward to reading it. I hope they have a few copies left . . .

  4. I think that “rreaders” are tenacious, dedicated, devoted sorts, the kind who growl when someone bothers them when they’ve got their nose in a good book, and therefore, it’s not a typo at all.

I am sure you are still good company because you are good people, and good people can’t be bad company. And if you can’t be a working writer among other writers and expect understanding, then something is amiss.

  5. I really want a copy of Wintergirls to review (I have a book blog), but I wouldn’t be able to post a review on the myspace blog b/c I don’t have a myspace and I have no intention of getting one (too much trouble). Could I comment here with a link to the review on my blog (if I get an ARC)?

  6. So exciting…

How exciting. I bet they will get a lot of requests since news will travel fast to all of your fans! I would feel so lucky to get to read Wintergirls in advance and review it on my blog http://www.mrsvsreviews.blogspot.com I sent in my email request as soon as I saw your blog entry about it.

  7. I got an ARC of WINTERGIRLS when ALA was in Denver last week. Read it yesterday- at the basketball court, waiting at football, last night when I was supposed to be cooking dinner- I couldn’t put it down. I reviewed it on my blog (www.carolwscorner.blogspot.com), don’t think I began to do it justice. Just wanted you to know, though, that I thought it was amazing. I’ll be putting mine in an envelope to send to my seventeen-year-old niece this afternoon!

  8. I just found out that you had a LJ…and I have been a big fan since I read Speak a couple of years ago. I emailed about the ARC of Wintergirls…I really hope I get it since I would really like to review it for my high school newspaper.

I’ve read the excerpt you posted. Absolutely amazing, I’ve been sending to all my friends and they say the same thing…we are all so excited to read it.
