  1. Completely random, but thought you might know:

Is there any way that a MAC can be on sleep (screen saver) and the i-pod can still charge?
Because I have to leave my laptop on while I go to class and the ipod doesnt seem to charge when the computer is on sleep/screen saver. (Maybe b/c I have a password set to wake up my computer from the screen saver?)

  2. Sounds like a day to snuggle in with the book you have been reading and another bowl of that soup.

I wish I possessed your childlike grandeur of the snow. I do not live in the tundra but awfully close (Syracuse). I am so tired of driving in it, shoveling it and schlepping through it. Do you think if you held the typical 9 to 5 you would feel so passionate about the snow?

    Congrats on all the honors!

  3. I just wanted to let you know that I received the ipod, and thank-you once again! And many congratulations on your Edwards Award! You definitely deserve a day of just watching the snow fall.

  4. I was born and raised in the Syracuse area. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good snowy day as long as I can admire it from my warm cozy house.

  5. Oh man. This again? If you post about maple syrup snow again, I will cry.

We have had a horrible, horrible, horrible heatwave, the worst in over 100 years. Today it is 43 C/111 F. Yesterday it was the same. The day before that? 45 C/ 114 F. Tomorrow it will be 40/104. Then we might get some relief: 33/91. And then the 90s – 100 for a couple of weeks after that.

It is ridiculously oppressive and I’ve hardly eaten in days. Been surviving on ice and fruit smoothies because it is simply too hot to eat.

YUCK. YUCK. YUCK. Can I come stay with you?

  6. How can you stand it? How can everyone in your country stand it? GAH!

Now I am feeling guilty for all these mounds of snow. Wish I could ship them to you!

  7. more whining!

I’m not, really. We’re not, really. We’re very cranky. My state has rolling blackouts, so there were ~250,000 people without air conditioning at one point. The (heavily used) public transport system has crashed… tracks have literally buckled in the heat. I’ll try and find a picture, it’s amazing. There are too many wildfires raging (they love the conditions!). Homes have been lost, I think 10 at last count. Yesterday, there was a bushfire just around the corner from where I am staying, burnt 40 hectares and was ranging amongst powerlines so is a miracle we’ve still GOT power here. I’ll be posting a picture when I get home next week.

And in the next state over, people have died (20ish, mostly elderly).

    Look at the tracks! http://www.theage.com.au/national/tracks-buckle-and-so-does-rail-system-20090128-7s0h.html?page=-1
