Finally!

Chapter 20, which has been giving me fits for days, is finally done. HA! I’m pretty sure it’ll be heavily reworked in the next draft, but for now, it’s good enough and I’m stoked to be moving on.

Is anyone else confused by this?

Along with the very exciting news that I get to move on to chapter 21, today is my long run day and you know what that means, right? OATMEAL! Long runs require extra carbs in the system. My carbohydrate-of-choice at the end of January in a massive bowl of oatmeal.

The fact that I am this excited about oatmeal is a little alarming, I know. But it’s true.

(Stay tuned for some earth-shaking running news coming soon!)

  1. Yay!

After hearing you agonize over it over the weekend, I feel personally invested in Chapter 20 too!

    Enjoy the run.

And yes, I’m also confused by the James Joyce award choice.

  2. After a 37-year boycott of oatmeal, I’ve all of a sudden started eating it and loving it. It’s very alarming to suddenly love something you once despised. Cognitive dissonance strikes again. At this time of year I also like hashbrowns made out of leftover roasted sweet potatoes.

  3. Preheat the oven to 400-ish. Take a few pale-fleshed sweet potatoes (the orange fleshed ones have too much moisture, methinks). Peel and cut into slices or chunks…not too small or thin. Spray a roasting pan with nonstick stuff. Throw in the potatoes. Drizzle with olive oil…maybe a tablespoon? Sprinkle with coarse salt and fresh ground pepper. Anything else is optional. Sometimes I use onion salt or five-spice powder or chopped garlic (but don’t put fresh garlic until the last 15 minutes of cooking or it will char). Last night I used smoked paprika. Stir to coat. Roast! Roast until they look roasty! Eat. If you are fortunate enough to have leftovers, throw them in the skillet in the morning with an egg, if you want. They are very good for you!

  4. Yay! I just got back from the gym ( it was the first time I have been to the gym at college! *scary*) I think I’m walking something like 35 miles a week. Once the work load increases, who knows…hopefully I can keep the time. I need to, right??? : )

  5. A couple months ago I LOVED oatmeal, (the kind with fruit in it). But for the last month all I’ve been able to afford it oatmeal (a $1 box covers my food for 3-4 days, minus the milk I drink). I think I’m starting to hate it.

  6. Do you walk on a track, or a treadmill? Cause you can definitely read while doing the treadmill. My calves were amazing when I lived in the dorm. 3rd floor room, no elevator. Going up and down those stairs 5 times a day adds up. Plus most of my classes were on the third floor too.

  7. I just started two days ago on the treadmill instead of outside (too much exhaust/ice) I cant read while on a treadmill, even if I’m walking because its that pace right before running where you feel like you should be running though your not!

Put cinnamon on your oatmeal to make it better? : )

  8. oatmeal et al

Laurie, I had oatmeal every morning at KW!

Thanks so much for posting the quotes, I’m going to blow them up and hang them over my desk.

    Glad Chapter 20 is history!

    Cinda

  9. I’m looking everywhere and can’t seem to find what this award…is, haha. Could anyone give a brief explanation?

And it’s awesome you got through Chapter 20. I hope Chapter 21 isn’t as pesky getting onto the screen.

  10. What a pretty rainbow! Did you know that everyone sees the colors on a rainbow slightly differently?
