Fingers in ears, eyes squeezed shut

So we saw The Movie last night and I loved it (particularly the most dramatic scene which I think plays out better onscreen than in the text), and I am going to a party Friday night and might stay up reading The Book.

But I want to be surprised so I am hereby boycotting news and blogs until Saturday. Shhh! Don’t tell me. I want to find out for myself!

In other news, I thought I’d point out that I am a real estate genius. (They should give me an infomercial, I swear.) I have lived in two of the recently designated top small towns to live in: #15 – Horsham, PA and #17 – Olney, MD. I hereby predict that Mexico, NY will soon rocket to the top.

Back to work.

  1. I agree with you about the DRAMATIC SCENE in THE MOVIE. I loved, loved, loved it. I want to see it at IMAX, in 3D.

Like you, I’m hitting a party (or some parties), then staying up all night reading THE BOOK. I just hope and pray that the jerks stay away; I don’t want to be spoiled either.

Laurie, the reason those towns hit those lists is because YOU lived in them. I mean, think of the selling point: Awesome author lives here. I’d be sold. ♥

    Have a good one!

  2. I just got an email that my book was shipped Tues. the 17th at 10:55 PM! I’ll have to wait and let my son read it first, but then it’s mine!

I just finished Twisted and LOVED it! I reviewed it on my blog if you’d like to take a peek.

  3. *suffering from a lack of HP userpic*

We’re going at midnight, I’m really excited (also because it means no school for six weeks). I’ve finished my cloak, and we all made t-shirts with the dark mark on.

I wasn’t sure about the movie, I thought it felt a bit rushed (as in, “quick get this scene over with so we can go onto the next one”) and it’s the longest book, yet one of the shortest films! *stops rambling*

    😀

  4. A lot of news sites, such as NY Times and the Baltimore Sun, have already posted reviews of “The Book.” From what I know, CBS has apparently said that they were not going to spoil the book for their viewers. (Still–no. Not risking that.)

    I can’t wait for the book. ^^;

  5. I thought the movie was a bit rushed, too, and seemed to leave out some semi-important scenes. They didn’t do any Quidditch, they didn’t show Hagrid and McGonagall getting stunned, or any of the major stress that the O.W.L.’s put on the students. They also took some creative license in how events happened, and in what order they happened as compared to the book. However, I still loved it. 🙂

I’m also coming home to go to a party this weekend with a couple of my friends before getting the book. Can’t wait!!

    Little Quirk

  6. Geez, my old hometown ranked 9th. We moved because the two towns (Chester, PA being one) that are near this 9th best town are on the Worst Towns to Live In list.

    Horsham, huh?

Lived in Lansdale for a while. Pretty close by, right?

  7. I had issues w/ the big change in the movie (the Cho thing).

As for the book, I’m terrified I’ll be spoiled, and I’ve got it HARD this weekend. I go see Hairspray at 1, then work from 3:30 until midnight (I don’t have to sell the book, just work the party). I go back to work at 8:30, and then I’m off at 5 to go directly to the Clay Aiken concert. Aaaaahhhhh!!! I plan on spending Sunday in the book.

  8. i agree with you that i’m terrified someone is going to manage to spoil it for me. i ordered the british edition off of amazon.ca, so i’m not even sure when i’m getting mine, and i’m going on a camping trip next week to a place where it’s guaranteed almost everyone else is going to have a copy of the book. if someone spoils the ending i think my head may very well explode.

good luck staying in the vacuum!

  9. I’m so glad to hear that one of my favorite authors (a.k.a. YOU) is into one of my favorite books! 😀 It makes me feel cool, haha!

Anyway, I saw THE MOVIE as well – looooved it, of course! And I am definitely heading down to a midnight party tomorrow night in order to read THE BOOK. (*dumdumdummm*) I will try my very very best to stay away from the computer at all costs. It will be hard. -_-

  10. I would love to the see the budget for the movie. My guess is they spent the money on the effects – esp – The Big Scene – and had to eliminate several story lines. But they left little nods of plot (Cho) for those of us who read the books.

  11. small world

I lived in the Wissahickon Park Apt on Easton Road across from a huge shopping center that, at the time, had a Kings store in it. But I think the apts burned down many years ago.
Went to Gwen-Nor Elementary at the time.

Also lived in Schwenksville which is up that-a way.
