  1. Speak and my bad kids

I’m a brand new english teacher this year and am having a ROUGH time in my school. The kids have unbelievable behavioral problems (in every class) and are from a community that often doesn’t seem to value education at all. Also, many of them have poor support systems at home. All of this makes interesting them in English nearly impossible.
BUT…I have recently had the opportunity to teach SPEAK to a couple of my more difficult classes and they LOVE it! Speak is my favorite book and I was so excited to share it with them. They have fallen in love with the characters (although they HATE Heather!) and will sit for most of the class and discuss it. I showed part of the movie and they got so involved they screamed at the TV the whole time. It’s been great!
Thank you SOSOSOSOSOSO much for this book! I think you’re incredible and I wish you the best in everything you do!

  10. YOU AND PAT KOONTZ

YOU are amazing!!! This is Pat Koontz!!! I have a couple of things to share with you and haven’t been able to reach you. This seemed like a GREAT way!!! What an awesome idea!!! How will I possibly get any work done if I am reading your journal every day? No. 1 — I am a Librarian!!! I graduated from Kutztown University in May and am now the Librarian at . . . Walton Farm Elementary School!!! Can you believe it? I am having SO MUCH fun doing what I love. I get to spend time with over 550 children every day. I love it!!! No. 2 — I have been wanting to tell you how much I enjoyed “Prom.” I was able to borrow it from my Professor at Kutztown who had an advanced copy. I loved it and can’t wait for your next “one-word-title” book!!! I especially loved your cover for this one. It caught my eye. I am a person who is drawn to an exciting cover. I enjoyed the story of “Prom” and the issues involved that will certain relate to high school students. We all know they need good literature to read!!! Thank you!!! Shucks! There is a No. 3 (and probably a No. 4, 5, 6, etc.)! No. 3 — I LOVE YOUR WEBSITE!!! I’m going to encourage my students to go to your website to see what you are all about. I read “Thank You, Sarah” today and the kids loved it!!! I am also reading “Turkey Pox” to students this week and they are really enjoying it!!! I have class, so I have to go! (I love saying that!!!) I am so happy to be in touch with you. Thanks for providing us with such GREAT literature to inspire children!!! You are awesome!!! Pat Koontz

  13. I LOVE L.H.A!!

Laurie Halse Anderson! I have read every one of your books… and they are GREAT!! I am 14… an aspiring writer/Guidance Councelor/ freelancer… whatever… but I want to do SOMTHING with writing… your books have taught me so much about the books I like, and the writing style I like to use, and how to make writing have a slight humorous, sarcastic edge that keeps readers coming back for more! Thank you so much for the guidance you have provided me in finding my style of writing. I promise, I’ll be the first one to buy your new books!!

  16. Hi

Hi may name is Samantha Lusher but everyone calls me Sami I go to Shawnee Misson North High scool..I was in english and we started to read for pleasure, and your book Speak was in the stack of books. My teacher told me it was a good book, so I started to read it and i fell in love with it. It is so touching and I fished it, but I told my mom I wanted the book. She told my dad, and my dad bought it for me. it suprised me because i dont see my dad offten. I was sooo excited that I got it, and my mom want’s to read it now, because we saw the movie. The fact that I dont like that, is that the movie is not as good as the book. I think the book is way much better!!…. The funny thing about me reading your book, is that I don’t like reading, and there is only one book that cought my attion. That book was Chiken Noddle Soup for the Teenager(The Tough Stuff). I just can’t get over your book. I fell bad because Melinda (main in character Speak) of what happen to her, and I understand why she didn’t say anythindg about what happen to her, but I like that in the end where she opend up to everyone telling people about it and I respect that because I am 15 and I am a freshman, but I am going to be 16 on January 3, 2006 I can’t wait!! ok well that is all wht I wanted to tell you so bye.
