Spackle dust in my hair

First things first. Many, many thank yous to librarians Nettie and Suzanne for all their hospitality, and the cool and friendly students of Schenectady High School for making my visit on Thursday the highlight of a great week.

As I drove home on the Thruway Thursday night I kept thinking about all the people I met during the week – it really was a terrific experience. And then I realized I had a million thank you notes to write. And then it started to snow, which gave me a good reason to avoid thinking about the thank you notes.

Yesterday and today I have been the BH’s carpenter assistant, scraping spackle off of beams and other silly jobs that make me feel important. He redid part of the kitchen while I was out of town (it looks amazing). There is a big push to finish up some house projects before Thanksgiving. That’s why there is a nice guy painting the living room, a guy in the garage hammering on something, and a husband sawing heavenknowswhat. (BH has promised a quiet day tomorrow so I can get the thank you notes done and go back to work on the final revision.)

Now I have I find my power sander (yay!) and my polyurethane brush.

  1. i like your subject for this post

You will be happyto know(maybe..prob not) that I took the advice about not putting humor into my paper (from, i think it was your cousin who responded on here) about the awful Crucible and got a 100! Thank you to you and your cousin. And because of that 100 my average for the term was a freaking 99. *shreiks*

I think you love your power sander.

  7. i have a quick question. do you think NaNoWriMo could get someone a career as an author? (http:??www.nanowrimo.org). i joined nanowrimo (my novel and nano info is in my most recent lj post) in slight hopes it could help me on the path to a career as an author, even though i’m only 15, being an author has always been a dream of mine. i just would appreciate your opinion.

  10. If participating in NaNoWriMo helps you finish writing a book that is strong enough to be published, then the answer is yes.

Just being able to say “I participated in NaNoWriMo” won’t mean very much unless you can show a finished product.

Since you are 15, my advice is to write for the fun of it and read tons of books!

  13. Hello!

Hi, this is Nicky Zamostny.. I was at Dominion High School for your speech and I just wanted to let you know that I recently read Speak and Catalyst. Catalyst I read in one single day! Both books were amazing and when I read them I truly felt the emotions of the characters. I really liked how they appealed to my age group and the word choice you used. I was also impressed with all of the background research you must have done in order to write these books. I just wanted to let you know all of this and I think that you are an amazing author and I can’t wait until Prom comes out!

Hey! I’m from SHS. I was at your last workshop (the chick who walked in laye with the eyebrow piercing and the same name as your daughter, Stephanie). Just wanted to know if you were able to go over the short story my friend Olivia gave to you. Thanks,
    Stephie
