They finally made the official movie announcement!

They made the formal announcement in LA this weekend.

Here ’tis again!

Grab your calendars. The film airs for the first time at 9 pm, September 5th. (It will be shown more than once.) This kind of simulcast has apparently never been done before. The DVD version is scheduled to release September 27th. It will contain a commentary track done by director Jessica Sharzer and yours truly, and might have some behind-the-scenes stuff.

I had a quiet weekend, filled with writing, cleaning and packing. I didn’t buy Harry Potter yet because I want to buy it at my favorite independent bookstore next week. has already read it. Anyone else? Opinions?

  13. Harry Potter six was . . . well, maybe a bit better than mediocre.

It was good, of course, and maybe I’ll think higher of it when I finish the re-read (which I finally decided to start last night).

My idea of “spacing it out” was taking a six hour “nap” between reading. So it’s not boring, and it’s extremely fast-paced like the rest of the series, so that if you really wanted to you could have it done in under 12 hours.

I don’t want to call it bad, because I did enjoy it. But I’d say it’s as disappointing as it is good. I feel that there’s a lot missing from the sixth book, and when you think about how much has to be explained and done in the seventh book, it’s really disappointing. A lot of things that should have been answered in book six were more or less ignored. Which means that they have to be answered in the seventh book. Now, I don’t doubt that any Harry Potter fan would be thrilled to see a 1000+ page seventh book, but judging by the way the sixth book is cut down to under 700 pages, it’s questionable whether or not they’ll allow a book that long.

  16. HP 6

I read it. It’s awesome! You’ll love it. It’s quite sad though, and kinda freaky in some parts. I did think the writing style was better in the past books, but it was still really good!

  19. Great news! Too bad they give away a big part of the ending of the book right at the beginning of the press release, though I can kinda understand why they would do that. But still!

    Congrads.

  22. *points to icon* I finished HP and the HBP.

It gets boring, then really exciting, then boring, but important, then really exciting, etc etc XD

Oh *marks her calendar* Congrats ^_^ I can’t wait to watch it.

*wonders what channel showtime/lifetime is on* And is the time for a certain time zone, or will it be shown at 9 central time too?

  25. I think I read somewhere that books 6 and 7 were kind of intended to be a “part 1 and part 2” set. I agree with you about the loose ends, though – she’s got a lot of explaining to do in the next one.

One of the things I was wondering most while reading it was how much (if at all) her writing style and structure in this book is influenced by the fact that there will almost certainly be a movie made of it. This would apply to book 5 as well, of course, but I didn’t think of that when I read that one. :p I don’t have any answers to that question, but it’s something I want to think on and perhaps discuss with some friends.

After all, how often does an author write a book knowing that it’ll be made into a movie? I can’t think of any other examples off-hand.

  28. Great about the movie, though I don’t get Showtime. >:(

As for HBP, I… well, I don’t want to ruin the many surprises, but I was sort of disappointed. It was good, mind you, but not as good (in my opinion) as OotP. Though certain points made me quite happy. =) The biggest problem I had was how OOC the whole book seemed.

    It’s still a must-read though. =)

  34. Harry Potter is possibly the most depressing series I have ever read.

As for the movie, I am going to write reminders for myself everywhere in my house.

  37. HP6

I definitely agree that it seems book 6 and 7 will act as part 1 and 2 of the ‘final saga’ of Harry Potter.

The problem with this book is that it is very much less action packed (as a whole) than the last two books were. I consider it to be written as a mystery.

Kudos on your choice: river’s end bookstore is surely worthy of your dollars.
