Happy post-ALA news

Word came today that both SPEAK and FEVER 1793 were chosen for the 100 Best of the Best list compiled by YALSA. (Thank you, lovely librarians!) I haven’t been able to find an ala.org link to the entire list yet. If somebody knows the coordinates, let me know so I can post it and we can all enjoy it.

Scheduling utility shut-offs didn’t take as long as I feared. I used the extra time to write a poem. Now I have to pack the extra sheets and pots and pans.

I am NOT going downtown for Live 8 tomorrow. I am a weenie about sun and heat, and I’ve heard they are going to be stingy with public bathrooms. Are any of you guys going? If so, be sure to report back.

A thunderstorm is rolling in. The kitties living on the deck have taken cover under the folding chairs.

  1. Congratulations on your books making that list! That’s got to be great for you. 🙂

We’ve had some nice storms in the past few days. Pffft, figures, though. Right after everything passes us, the storms actually get stronger. Boo.

  7. Live 8 Concert

If you don’t feel like going out to the concert and you don’t have anything to do tomorrow (unless you’re planning on working with the new novel which I support you doing as well) then you can watch the concerts on MTV or VH1. I’m definitely going to be watching them. It will be cool.

  10. Re: Live 8 Concert

Excellent!!! I will def be tuned in. That’s how I watched the Live Aid concert 20 years ago, when I was living in Washington DC and had a brand new baby. I am very picky about outdoor concerts – they need to be held in a temperature range of 55-75 degrees (F), and the ground has to be dry. Oh, and a big crowd, but not a scary big crowd. And water has to be free.

This explains why I do not go to many outdoor concerts.

  19. Many deserved congratulations!

I hope the next people are kind to the kitties. A capture with a spay and/or neuter would be nice too.

  22. The list is currently only available to YALSA members but if you don’t mind a really long comment, I could cut and paste the titles for you.

  25. Ah, yes, LIVE8. I am venturing out tomorrow. I figure worsecase scenario, I can just walk back home and watch it on TV if it is an absolutely ridiculous madhouse. I may even be able to hear it if I keep my windows open. Rumors have it that with the number of porta potties they have, it’s estimated that there is one per 3,000 people. I feel horrible for people who are jaunting into the city for this. I just figure that I’m here already–why not!

If you do get a chance, I suggest coming down for the Freedom Concert on the 4th (same location as LIVE8 on the Parkway)–at least there’ll be fireworks and at 8:30pm, sunset, and Elton John and others.

    Full reports to come.

This is why I predict an icky day. Step very carefully around the bushes and trees!!
