Country roads

It is indeed a beautiful day in the neighborhood. I took the Creature With Fangs for a long walk this morning, tunes courtesy of James Taylor and the Allman Brothers. I think it is time to rename the dog. She has stopped chomping and nipping those she loves best. She is massive… 8 months old and 56 pounds of pure-bred German Shepherd. Taking her for a walk is more like being taken for a drag, at least the first mile is. I think I’ll call her Baby Monster Girl for a while.

So BMG and me was walking. If you know the area (hi Lori!) we walked down Green Rd. from the other side of Hurlbut down to Rt. 64 and back. It is a gorgeous morning here; bright sunshine, high clouds, birds everywhere. We passed a large, scraggly hawk watching over his meadow, waiting for breakfast to come out of its hole. We had minor encounters with two dogs that weren’t leashed in their yards. That was a little scary – one was a pitbull. I’m going to call a vet and find what I should be carrying to discourage these encounters…. not the encounters themselves, but if they turn ugly. But it all worked out.

I’m going to write for a couple hours, then we’re going to the movies. Yes, THAT one. I’ll let you know what I think.

PS – what happened at H-H on Thursday?

  1. Drug lockdown.. they kept us in first period until the K9 units could go and sniff all the lockers to make sure no one was carrying anything. Then they had to call all the potential hits out of first period and search them. They finally got done at about the time second period ended, so we had shortened periods for the rest of the day.

    The end.

  7. Puppy bonding and review of prom

    Hi Laurie,
Have you posted before about your puppy? Our black lab Cosmo weighs nearly 40 pounds and is only four months old! I can’t believe how strong he is already. I’ve always been a cat person, and still am, but those puppy eyes…

Also, fyi, I included Prom in my bimonthly YA roundup for The Des Moines Register (Iowa’s statewide paper). Here’s the link: http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050529/ENT01/505290302&SearchID=73209734785185

You can only read it free until Saturday (one week). Each of the book covers ran really large in a cool design. You can read more about my approach to reviewing at It’s obviously much shorter than most…wish I’d had more space.

Also, we met five years ago at SCBWI, and have touched base before, although you probably don’t remember.

    Take care,
    kellye
