Errand Day

Usually I hate errand days, but today wasn’t so bad. I got to have lunch with Mer, and I got caught up on a long list of small, annoying to-dos. Didn’t write anything or get to the gym, but I guess you can’t have everything.

Most of the Anderson-Kressley clan heads to Disney World tomorrow, so I’m heading north to husband, son, and dog. The car is packed and gassed up. I’m looking forward to sunrises, sunsets, and writing time… along with lots of TLC.

Anonymous writes: Hi, I was just wondering if you could tell me if anything in your life had to do with your writing of Fever 1793. We are doing a book project and we are supposed to find a resemblence or something of that sort from the author’s life and why they may have written the book. I would greatly appreciate it if you could get back to me but I understand if you don’t. Thanks for your time.

Ummmmm…. When I started the book, there were no parallels between it and my life. As I was working on in, my mother became very ill. I traveled to Florida convinced she was going to die. (She didn’t.) It would be fair to say I drew from those emotions for the scenes in Fever when Mattie’s mother is sick.

a librarian named Patty writes: Here at our library we got information regarding a writing contest about “Prom” that was to be sponsored by Baker and Taylor. I haven’t been able to find any information beyond this original flier. What has happened with the contest?

You can find the cool PROM fanfiction contest details here!

Haley writes: Hi I’ve read a couple of your books and I have an idea for one. Girls these days have found that cutting themselves works as a good release for stress or anger. Me being on of those girls have found that it really does work as other girls describes it working. I think it would be a good idea to write about a girl that cuts herslff cause I have only seen one books bout that and to be honestest I hated it. It wasn’t too realistic. That book didn’t describe it like it really is and I know you can that. Thanks for taking the time to read my email and it’s okay if you use my name.

I’ve talked to a lot of girls and a couple of guys who have done/are doing this. It will turn up in one of my books – you can count on it. Thanks for the suggestion.

  1. re: Self cutting. There’s some smart or at least thought-provoking stuff about it in Prozac Nation by Elizabeth Wurtzel. Probably only an appropriate book for someone in their later teens, though.

  7. I don’t know what book you read, but lots of people, including me, have loved the book “Cut” by Patricia McCormick. It came out in paperback in 2000.

  10. I also read “Cut” by Patricia McCormick, and thought it was a very good book. There are many books on this subject, although not all of them are “realistic”.
