Website housekeeping

No snow today so my school visit is on as planned. Before I dash, a couple of quick things…

We’ve set aside the week of Oct. 31st – Nov. 4th, 2005 for school visits in the Boston area. If you are interested, email Sarah Henry, Keeper of the Schedule – henrysa78@yahoo.com.

To Max from the Casimir Pulaski Fine Arts Academy – if you want me to visit your school, you have to email Sarah. That’s how you get the ball rolling.

Stuart writes: What was the precise relevance (of SPEAK) to “The Scarlet Letter” on page100-102? I am writing it for my 9th grade Honors English class. We all think that this is a great book to read. Is there going to be a sequel? Please respond as so I may recite what your response is to my class.

Sorry, Stuart. I didn’t like doing homework when I was in high school, and I’m not going to do it now. That is one of the pleasures of being grown-up. However there is an entire page on my website that discusses the connections between the two books. Feel free to check it out.

The Horn Book review for PROM is up.

  1. Speak

I am currently a student at Washington State University anxious to become an English teacher. I am taking a youth literature class this term and chose to read your book “Speak” for my book presentation. First let me say that this was an excellent book and I couldn’t put it down. You deal with an issue that is important to bring to light. I also think this is a great book for the classroom. Anyways, I wanted to ask a question about your website. In “Speak” the tree plays a big part symbolically, which is why it intrigued me when I say a tree at you book page. I was just wondering if there was any other reason besides simple web design behind this?

OK, I know I’m not the author herself, but I asked a similiar question about the eyes. She said she had NO control over what the covers would look like.

  10. Re: Speak

As points out, I had no input into the cover design of the book.

The design of the web page, however, I had lots of control over. My site is designed by , who did all the cool art on it too. Since he and I have never met, I filled out one of the silly questionnaires that float around the Web to give him a sense of who I am and how I see myself.

I have a grandfather who was a forester, and the forests of the Adirondack mountains were a huge part of my childhood. I am a creature of the forest, that for sure.

    Hence, trees.
