The most exciting day of the year

Tuesday, March 20th, means…

… that Spring is finally here. It snowed on and off all day yesterday.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic … that the TWISTED book contest is closed to new guesses. This is one of the deeper snow drifts around the house – it is about 55 inches high. BH will be monitoring the melting daily. As soon as the last bit of snow is gone, I’ll make the announcement and choose the winner.

… that TWISTED is officially launched!!! Yee-haa!!! You can buy it in a bookstore today! Please read it and tell me what you think.

… that the TWISTED podcast is up on my website. (Thank you, theoblack!)

… that ShelfLife is celebrating one of my heros, Judy Blume.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic … that I have to finish packing

… because my book tour starts today! I leave for the airport in a couple of hours and will spend the rest of the day flying south. Cross your fingers that the suitcase stays with me.

I will be blogging daily from the road. Here is tomorrow’s schedule:

Gazing in a crystal ball & contest to win a signed book

At about three this morning, a chunk of ice the size of a coffee table and six inches thick released itself from our upper roof and crashed into the roof of the sunporch, right outside my bedroom window. The impact put a sizable dent in the two layers of steel roofing. It also woke me up. Nearly gave me a heart attack, in fact.

I think this is going to be a long day.

I leave on the book tour in one week, exactly. First stop will be Arkansas and Mississippi. I have not been to either state yet and am very stoked. The Mississippi event is open to the public. It is actually more of a Tennessee/Mississippi event. The store, Books-A-Million, is in Southaven, MS, which is a suburb of Memphis, TN.

Do you know anyone who lives near Memphis? If so, would you consider begging them to go to my signing on Wednesday, March 22? How about Oxford, MS? I’ll be there on Thursday, March 26th. The bookstore is Square Books, Jr. and the event starts at 3:30pm. Author Karen Hesse (whom I adore) will be there, too, so please, please, grab the dog and the kids and join us!

One of the nice things about having the first part of the tour set in the South is that the chances of sheets of ice crashing in the middle of the night are slim.

It’s time for a contest!!!! Guess when the last bit of snow is going to melt in my yard. Step right up, folks! Declare your guess for the the date and time in the Comments. Guesses must be posted by one week from today, Tuesday, March 20th. The person who comes closest will win a signed copy of TWISTED.

Let the game begin!

Stomach twisting monday

It’s two weeks until TWISTED is released. Let the nausea begin.

I expect to get back my editor’s comments on my WIP today. I want to try and turn it around before I leave. More tummy-twisting.

Oh, and yeah, the book tour is in two weeks and I am obsessing about packing and I need to remember to buy Sleepytime Tea for the trip and to pack my vitamins and I better get to the gym because exercise time will be short and it is snowing again and they closed Rt. 81 because nobody could see anything. But, really, I’m fine. Really. I just need a nap.

Theo has given the homepage of my website a new feel. He also posted the Tour Online, and started putting up the dedicated TWISTED pages.

I am going to eat Tums now.

Oh, and I got a tattoo this weekend. What did you do?

TWISTED Book Tour!

Fire up the engines, honey, it’s time to take this book on the road!

In about a month, I am the very lucky author who gets to visit 20 cities in 12 days, and (fingers crossed, toes crossed, jumping up and down) meet hundreds and hundreds of you guys in the process.

I am not sure exactly how the cities were chosen, except that I do know that an effort was made to get me to a couple of places I had not visited before.

There are three kinds of events on this tour. Because I write for teenagers, my smart publishers went to a lot of trouble to get me in front of them. I will be visiting 7 high schools in the course of this visit. (It was supposed to be 8, but administrators at one school apparently got spooked because of the nature of my books.) These SCHOOL EVENTS are not open to the public. Sorry. I wish they were.

A STOCK SIGNING is kind of a drive-by signing. It is not a formal book signing, but booksellers don’t seem to mind if people show up. Generally, the author sprints from the car to the store, signs a lot of books, gets to hang out with the booksellers (who tend to be very interesting people), then sprints back to the car.

A PUBLIC EVENT, is, well, open to the public. That means you and everybody you know are invited to hang out. Bring the dog, too. I like dogs.

If you see a gap of a couple of hours between events, I am sad to report it does not mean I can get together with you for coffee. Every minute of this tour is spoken for between traveling, speaking, lunches and dinners with librarians and booksellers, and – occasionally – sleep.

Enough babbling, let’s get to it!

TWISTED TOUR, Mar. 20 – April 1, 2007
