polishing presentation, packing for take-off

By this time tomorrow, I’ll be on my way to Kindling Words. I have about 48 hours of work to do before I leave. It’s going to be a long day.

Re: Heath Ledger. So very sad, so awful for his loved ones.

I am syndicating this blog to Amazon Connect. It’s a terrific idea, but I’m having a hard time with some of the technology involved. The first thing I had to do to make it work was to change my browser from Safari to Firefox.

Do any of you have an opinion about Firefox vs. Safari? If I stay with Firefox, which add-ons should I consider?

Have any of my author buddies out there done this? Did you have any trouble finding your titles with the Verification process? They don’t seem to be listing some of my books in the box where I am supposed to verify things – like Speak and Twisted – which is kind of a big deal.

Do any of you read author blogs via AmazonConnect?

(No, I’m not listed yet, I think it will take a day or two for everything to be verified.)

I’m not sure if I’ll be blogging from Kindling Words. I promise to take lots of pictures.

  1. I believe I heard somewhere that once you connect to AmazonConnect, it’s very hard to unconnect, if that matters.

I use Firefox, but as I am also using a different computer family than you, I cannot comment on it v. Safari. I can only say that it beats the heck out of Explorer.

And I don’t read stuff at AmazonConnect. But with their Kindle and whatnot, reading there might end up on an upswing? (Yeah, that was type-written up-speak.)

I will be seeing you in a few months in Nashua. But boy, do I hope to get to Kindling Words one of these days . . .

  2. I was in Vermont for Kindling Words this time last year! Say “booger” to my friend Janni Lee Simner, would you? Pretty please?

You will have a grand time!

P.S. I believe Janni knows the ins and outs of Amazon blogs, so she might be a good source of information there.

  3. I loooooooooove firefox extensions. Here are my favorites:
Adblock Plus and Flashblock ensure that the internet pretty much becomes ad-free.

Colorful tabs makes your tabs turn different pretty colors. Doesn’t do anything useful, but I think it’s cool.

Foxy Tunes allows you to play and control music directly from your browser, rather than having to click back and forth between your browser and your playlist (works with more than just iTunes)

IE Tab lets you open a page in Internet Explorer when the site doesn’t support Firefox

  4. I switched from Safari to Firefox and would not switch back. Two basic features I like are being able to rearrange my tabs by dragging them around, and the warning it gives me so I don’t accidentally close all my tabs at once. GoogleDocs/Gmail has more functionality on Firefox than Safari, too.

I use the del.icio.us add-ons, and a livejournal-specific one that shows in the status bar what the latest addition to my friends page is.

  5. Foxmarks

Firefox has a great add-on called foxmarks. You can synchronize you bookmarks from one computer to the next. I use it to keep my work bookmarks synched with home. It’s great. Have a good time!

  6. I’d probably stick with Safari if i had a Mac.

On a Mac, Safari’s faster than Firefox and uses less RAM. Firefox version 3 promises to make Firefox much faster and more robust, but it won’t be released for a couple months. But Firefox has add-ons, which sort of means that it has more features than any other browser. The first two extensions moriath recommended are pretty much essential. I also like the One-click Answers extension, which lets you right-click on highlighted text to get the definition or Wikipedia entry for that text. Keep in mind that the more extensions you have, the longer it will take Firefox to load.
