Week 1 – DONE! Bring on Week 2!

I have kept my New Year’s resolutions for seven days! Go me!

2008 Week 1>> Days When I Wrote for At Least an Hour: 7. YTD: 7.
2008 Week 1 >> Miles Run: 20. YTD: 20.

Finishing out the miles yesterday on the treadmill was ugly, ugly, ugly, but I did it.

Today I will try to write a million bazillion chapters while staring at the phone because my niece is in the hospital right now getting ready to have her first child. If he is born before midnight, he will share his birthday with his great-grandmother, (aka my mom) Joyce Mason Holcomb Halse, who is 77 years old today.

It has always amused me that Mom was born the same day as Elvis. Even funnier: it’s David Bowie’s birthday. I think the joke should start “So Elvis, David Bowie and Mom walk into a bar…” Definitely the birthday of cultural icons.

  1. Happy Birthday to your mumzy! : ) And GREAT job keeping your resolutions! Mines walk 36 miles or so a week, and I’ve kept it so far..I think its only because my dads is the same resolution and I’m 18 so I figure I should be tougher than him! Ah, family competition….

  2. Happy Birthday to your mom, and congrats on your successful week – what a way to kick off the year. I used to be run 20 miles a week, but now I am happy to run 10 miles a week. I’ll make it back to 20 this year!

My daughter Violet was due on Jan 8th last year, and I was also psyched that it was Elvis’ birthday. However, she decided to grace us with her presence on Jan 17 which is the same birthday as, uh, oh…let me check: Al Capone, Muhammad Ali, Anne Bronte, Andy Kaufman, and Maury Povich.

    : D

  3. Happy birthday, Laurie’s Mom!

I also wanted to tell you that I couldn’t sleep last night, so I picked up Twisted and read it cover to cover (the same way I devoured Speak a few years ago). It’s a beautiful, gut-smashing book. I’ve been spreading my brief review of it around, but wanted to thank you personally. I can’t wait to read the new one!

  4. Happy Birthday Joyce! Sorry we couldn’t get to see you guys over Christmas.

    Little Quirk 🙂

  5. happy birthday

I share a birthday with your mother, Elvis, and David Bowie how lucky am I? I tell my students each year that I spent most of my early birthdays with Elvis. Each year on my birthday they would play Elvis movies all day long. Now one or two channels will play an Elvis movie. Happy birthday to your mom.

  6. happy birthday to your mom! congrats on keeping your new year’s resolutions too! and happy birthday to your niece’s son when he is born! (that’s neat that your mom shares her birthday with elvis and david bowie. i found out that i share my birthday with estelle getty (the woman that played sophia on the golden girls) which i thought was cool. do you share your birthday with any famous people? just wondering.) miss you and glad things are going well for you! =) ♥
