Burning the pencil at both ends

Choose one:

A) You can stay up very, very late with the college students who are home on vacation and do silly things and talk too loudly and have a blast.

OR

B) You can go to bed at a reasonable hour and wake up before dawn to write.

Doing both is not recommended. Doing both for three nights in a row is just plain stupid.

So how much sleep did you get last night?

  1. staying up very, very late and getting up before dawn sounds like my usual schedule the last couple of days before a major paper is due!

how much sleep did i get last night? not enough. i have two finals today – actually already had my english final, and history is in about two hours. i think i need caffeine. i’d take a nap, but i’m afraid i wouldn’t wake up in time!

  2. I got 4 hours? 5 hours? Such is the life of an IB High School senior…

And I vote option A because it’s more fun! Maybe you could switch off every other night.

  3. Last night? Well, I was told yesterday afternoon that I had a snow day today, so I got to sleep in until I was good and ready to wake up. ‘Twas very nice 🙂 I think I came in at around 8 hours.

  4. while everybody else masochistically brags about their (lack of) sleeping habits, I would like you to know that I went to bed early last night at 10:30 and woke up promptly at 5:30. A full eight hours. It was the best sleep I’ve had in months.

  5. Sleep -what a concept!

I was up waiting for my daughter’s new insulin pump to be delivered by UPS. The one they were supposed to have delivered between 8am and 7pm (don’t you just love those time specific delivery windows?) and which required a signature. The one they then said would be delivered by 9:30pm, 10pm at the latest.

The one which finally arrived at 11:27pm. And for which the driver didn’t even bother getting a signature.

Still, I wrote a 720 word newspaper column and 550 words on my super secret project while I was waiting.

    Tonight – bed at 9pm.

  6. I choose (A) because as cliché as this may sound think how blessed you are that you have a beautiful gaggle of kids to keep you up all night doing silly things and talking too loudly. There is nothing like the sound of family emanating throughout a home on the holidays. When you are old and gray and looking back on your life I can guarantee that you will not recall the all the nights you made it to bed at a reasonable hour but you will most certainly remember staying up to the wee hours with your loved ones. God Bless you and your family. Happy Holidays

I myself was tucked in last about 9:00 pm. I’ve been fighting a nasty cold and was determined to hit the sack early. As I was drifting off to the lovely warm coziness of slumber my cat discovered that I had decorated the large toilet brush in the living room that acts as my Christmas tree. No real greenery has entered my home since this little fuzz ball game into my life 4 wonderful Christmas’s ago. It was a full hour of listening to rattling and rustling. I awoke this morning to all the casualties scattered on the floor.

  7. A gaggle of college students sounds remarkably like one toddler up at 3:55 who wants to talk, twirl your hair around his finger and “hold you Mommy”…yeah I’m pooped.

  8. Since finals ended, I’ve been going to bed at about 4 and getting up 12ish, but sometimes as late as 1:30. Heh. During finals was worse, ’cause I’d stay up almost as late, about 3ish, and then wake up for whatever final it was the next day, waking up early to finish final projects or do last minute studying. On average I probably got, at best, 6 hours a night for two weeks. Yay finals.

  9. the amount of sleep i get varies depending on what i’m doing. the earliest i’m usually in bed is about 10pm and the latest is usually midnight or so. i hope you’re having a lot of fun with your family! hope you have a merry christmas and a happy new year! =) ♥
