Myfriend Ernesto & Myspace thoughts

I welcome Ernesto with open umbrella and open arms.

Having grown up in Central New York, there is something about dreary, rainy days that makes the writing flow for me. Flow like a frothing river, awash in hurricane-inspired floodwaters. I cranked out one chapter this morning and am in danger of another before dinner. Go ahead, big guy. Rain some more.

I signed up for a Myspace account a couple weeks ago. Why? Curious. Looking for another way to reach out to readers. I have to admit that I am underwhelmed. The ads are annoying, but what I truly hate is the time I waste getting “an unexpected error has occurred, blah, blah” messages. Here’s a question – what would be an “expected error,” huh? LiveJournal is SO much better.

Back to the book. BH is cooking chili and there is football on tonight. I love my life.

  1. Myspace is lame.

There is one good part – it is extremely easy to send people quick messages that way.

Like only yesterday, I had a quick question about someone’s publicist, but I didn’t know the person personally, and it might have seemed stalkerish (and a pain) for me to dig up their email, but they are my myspace friend, so bingo. And within minutes, I had my answer.

I guess I use it as a sort of visual address book – mostly people that are on it (for me) are actual friends or work-related people, so it’s kind of cool to have them all in one place and to be able to get little glimpses and updates into their lives. But I prefer real conversations, and for that, LJ is unbeatable.

  2. Thanks for sharing your MySpace thoughts. I’ve been resisting the pull to start an account there – mostly because the thought of learning/creating/maintaining another blog exhausts me. I keep hearing (from whom, I can’t recall) how YA authors “should” be on MySpace because that’s where the fan base is, but you seem to connect with fans pretty well on LJ, it seems. I won’t worry about it until I have a YA book out. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    *hugs* Thinking of you!

  3. I originally signed onto MySpace as a way to stay connected with my two stepdaughters and gain some insight into their lives without stalkermomspying on them. I even had them help me set up the account and asked them to friend me.

I wasnโ€™t ready for LJ at the time and MySpace not only allowed me to keep an eye on who might be chatting up the girls, it gave me a way to ease into blogging.

I now maintain both an LJ and a MySpace account. While I spend most of my blogging time on LJ, I still try to keep a presence on MySpace in hopes that in the future it will help me connect to my target readers.

I control who friends me on MySpace, just as I can control who friends me on LJ, so I donโ€™t find that to be an issue.

  4. Having grown up in England, rain reminds me of home and coal fires. It makes me feel small and quiet and slightly melancholy. But it is great for writing. And also for reading with a nice big soft blanket wrapped around me.

I hate myspace. I think it’s evil. And yet I have an account. I think I was inebriated when I created it. That’s the only explanation.

  5. The easiest way around the Myspace error message is to refresh the page, 9 out of 10 times it goes away.

Which football team are you rooting for? My teams have both won, so I’m happy.

Oh, yeah, this is my first post. Name’s Garrett, Speak and Catalyst are some of my favorite books, and I found you through my friend. I think you’re brilliant and can’t wait for the next book. (Still haven’t read Prom but I’ll get to it.)

  6. Hi Garrett!

I saw some college games last night. Was shocked that Notre Dame is ranked #2… it was a good game against Georgia. Syracuse lost again. Sigh.

I don’t have any rabid fanfeelings for any college team – will have to see how the season unfolds.

    But in the NFL?

    E-A-G-L-E-S! Eagles!

  7. Howdy. ๐Ÿ™‚

Notre Dame I think is a little over-rated, but they’re still a pretty good team. I’m sorry, my two teams, UTenn and USF both won, and because USF is local, they televised over the ND game, which was sad.

Haha, that’s sad. See, I’m a Buc, through and through. Born and raised in Tampa all my life, so, I can’t wait until our two games this year. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Happy Sunday!
