Past my bedtime

Sorry for not posting earlier. The day ran away with me. Mostly I spent it sanding and painting more window frames, but a good chunk was taken up preparing for tomorrow’s trip to Colorado (yay!!!) where I’ll be speaking at the Rocky Mountain Children’s Literature Conference. Yeah, I know – not too shabby. I love, love, love Colorado and the teachers are really nice out there, so as long as the plane doesn’t fall out of the sky, it should be a great weekend.

I’ll try to take photos. Not sure if I’ll have an Internet hook-up, but if I do, I’ll let you know how it’s going. My speech is all done and the last load of laundry is in the dryer. Almost time for bed.

  4. I just finished watching Speak-and it was so good! I think I almost cried! My favorite part was when Melinda hugged her dad and they planted flower seeds together. It was real sweet. I also liked the part where Melinda stood up to Heather-it was way much better than it was in the book. I cheered for her after she told Heather to leave. It was funny to see Elizabeth Perkins laugh after that scene. I just finished watching the movie with the commentary and Laruie you sound so cool! Is it alright if I call you Laurie? I watched the behind the scenes and you look alot like my second grade teacher. Will there be a movie to Catalyst??? I’ve only read half of the book-at the bookstore-because the library I go to doesn’t have a copy and they just got Prom-which by the way was awesome. I wtached the movie with my sister and mom and my dad came in towards the middle-close to the end. They kept asking questions about the book and the movie. My dad wanted to kill Andy-lol! Anyways I’m going to stop rambling-oh and I have one more question- do you think that maybe you could come to florida sometime for a book signing? I live in Jacksonville and the only fiction authors that do book signings here are for adult fiction and childrens but no YA authors and it would be really cool if you could come to meet you in person-you sound so cool! Okay I think I’ve done enough chattering!!! Anyways have a good trip!

  7. Egad!

You’ll be a half-hour away from where I live and I won’t be able to see you!!
I used to live in Greeley, by the way. It’s a nice town, for the most part. I think you’ll enjoy it. 🙂

  10. Have fun! Traveling is always fun. Unless of course, you are stuck riding in an airbus from Newark, NJ to Las Vegas, NV. Yes, an airbus. If you ask me it’s more like a box.

  16. Hi there, a fan here. A friend gave me the link to your journal…I didn’t even know you had a journal. I’m so out of the loop. Anyways, I just wanted to tell you that I’ve read both “Speak” and “Catalyst,” and I enjoyed both of them very much. I’m a horrible book-reviewer, but I’m honest.

I saw the movie night before last, I believe, and I enjoyed it, but it didn’t hit me the way the book did. It was really funny, because I wasn’t even aware there WAS a movie until my friend told me that morning that there was, and then that night, my mother and I were flipping through channels, and the movie she stopped on reminded me of “Speak.” And guess what, it was. Totally ironic, but my entire life is ironic, so…you learn to live with it.

I think I read “Speak” in one day, maybe? And “Catalyst” took me like a week because I lost it, but it was soon recovered in the bottom of my book bag. I know this is totally useless information, and you probably couldn’t care less, but I don’t want to be like, “Hi. Love your books. Bye.” But, I’m thinking of reading “Speak” again after I finish the book I’m reading right now.

    So, g’bye.

  22. HI MOMMA!!!

Hey Momma Laurie! Its Simone. I haven’t talked to you or seen you in such a long time. I miss you! I’m home from school for fall break. I just wanted to stop in and say hello. I hope meredith is doing well at school. I haven’t talked to her in a long time either. Nobody from home talks to me anymore. 🙁 But, thats alright. I have some good friends up at Ship, and I really like it there. Its a really small campus, and its not the city, which i’m used to, but I like it. My first week there, I couldn’t get used to everyone walking in front of cars, because i don’t expect them to stop (you’ll get run over in philly if you do that). So the first time a girl next to me walked into the street with a car coming, and i grabbed her and pulled her back….and the car stopped. Whoops. Oh well. Haha. I hope you have a safe trip, and have fun!

    Love Simone

  25. Colorado

Have a fun trip! =D I love Colorado too. I went there the past spring for skiing and everything. There’s a really nice hotel in Aspen, called the Mountain Chalet, if that’s where you’re going. Probably not, though. 😛

I watched Speak the other night. It was amazing. I like the part where she recovers after her fight with Andy and realizes that it’s okay to tell about what happened. I liked that part in the book, too. (the recovering, not where she had the fight) 🙂 But it was really good. I watched the commentary, too – you were good in it.

Good luck with your speech! I live in West Palm Beach, FL and it would be great to have you come down here sometime. That’s probably not possible, though, but I loved your books. But I’m not that far from Orlando, and I used to live in Jacksonville. Well, Ponte Vedra, which is thirty minutes away. I loved it there.

    Thank you!

  28. Just read “Catalyst”

Laurie, I just finished reading “Catalyst”. The book was assigned in an English class I am taking at Western Washington University titled “Young Adult Literature”. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and, as a result will now be reading “Speak”. Congratulations on your success and may you continue to live a happy life.
