Who said it was time for October?

Geesh. Girl turns her back around for one second and another month flies by.

We had a blast in PA. Many thanks to all of Mer’s fantastic friends for making her birthday so special. The family had lunch together despite many of us facing wicked traffic jams. Sunday we loved listening to the Millersville Marching Band. And the Morgan State Marching Band was rocking!! If you ever get the chance to see them, go. The weekend flew by, but we snuck in visits to two out of four kids, plus caught up with my former husband and his family, and we watched some football and enjoyed the changing leaves in two states. Not too shabby.

  1. Class thing

    Dear Mrs. Halse-Anderson,

I am in the middle of becoming an elementary teacher. I just finished reading your book, “Speak”. It was a great book, especially for teenagers. My homework assignment for Wednesday is to bring in a website from an author that we have read. I choose your website. I could not find an e-mail address for you anywhere on your page (And I know this must be intentional), but I thought it would be great if I could receive an e-mail from you to share with my class. Thank you If you can be helpful…I understand if you cannot. Thank you for a great book!

  4. Sounds like you had some fun! I can’t believe the leaves are changing already!

Sometime could you post a writting prompt? I suck at writting stories. My biggest problem is thinking of a story line, a problem the charector could run into. And I’m assigned a story, the topic? “A First” which is way too general for me. I guess I’m kinda indesisive….

The Millersville Marching Band is FANTASTIC!! Their insane jazzified show this year is craaaazy awesome. They performed at our first competition at Hempfield (where we won, woot) and it was amazing. That trumpet solo–incredible.

Ah, I’m in so much shock over them. Shippinsburg is particularly wonderful as well. =)

Is Mer in a college marching band? I can’t recall…

  13. Oh, marching band…::sobs uncontrollably::
    Anyway.

OK, seeing how you and I both HATE yellow jackets, here’s a story!

For the past summer, a yellow jacket nest has been growing INSIDE of the walls.
Yesterday, they finally gnawed through the dining room wall.
We have an infestation of yellow jackets. We duct-taped the hole, but I can still hear them gnawing at that!

Also, my room is RIGHT ABOVE the dining room. So, when I went to bed, I had a tiny surprise in my room — a yellow jacket. I flip out, and sleep in on a couch.

Today, during school, I was freaked out, wondering if they finally chewed through the duct tape. Luckily, they didn’t.
    However…

…as lucky as I am, I find about 5 yellow jackets flying in the dining room, as well as some more flying about the house.

Naturally, I freak out, screaming “Bloody Murder”.

Then, I go upstairs, and I open the door to the computer room (I closed all the upstairs doors, just in case), and what do I find? That’s right, a yellow jacket, still alive. I kill it.

Also, just now, I went inside my room, and I find five dead yellow jackets. Psh! I’m not sleeping in there tonight!

    [/story]
Ain’t it a blast? Any ideas? I’m desperate.

  16. Aww, congrats. Is she in a good chair?

I recently got second chair (Euphonium) in Warwick High’s concert band–not an easy feat if I do say so myself.

    Go mellophones! Wooh!

  25. Seriously? Buy an astronaut’s suit. That’s what I would do.

Option #2 – tell your parents to bring in an exterminator. If they hesitate, do it yourself. Pay in pennies if necessary.

Having yellow jackets eat through the wall of a house is right up there with Worst Life Experiences.

You should definately write a story about this. It might be your intro into the horrow genre.

This is an impossible question. I want to vote it off the island. I have too books for my number #1 pick…. I really like HOLES, WEETZIE BAT, anything written by Elizabeth George, Karen Hesse, and Christopher Paul Curtis. And Walter Dean Myers. Oh, and Charles Dickens. And I like what I write, too.

I like all of them. Asking me to pick a favorite is like asking me which one of my kids I love the most. There is no answer because it is an absurd question. Sorry, but that’s the truth.
