Strange thought

I don’t know why, but when I woke up this morning, I was pondering this question:

If you could break one rule (once or on a regular basis) and suffer no consequences from it, what rule would you break?

I wish I could break the rules of logic whenever necessary.

  1. 1st thing that came to mind…

i would break the “social rule” of biting your tongue. i would just say whatever i wanted to say, when i wanted to say it. some people already do that…!

  4. I’d probably have to say I’d break the rule at my school that has to do with leaving the “campus” throughout the day. But if there are no consequences for rules, then breaking them wouldn’t be any fun.

Cracking up here. Yes. You bring to mind a couple of octogenarians I know. When I turn 80 I am going to say whatever I want and chalk it up to old age. There are advantages to getting older ; )

  10. I’ll go for a big one: the rule that says you have to suffer the consequences of your mistakes. Life would be so much easier then. (Of course, then there’d be no way of learning from mistakes, but it’s only a wish 🙂 )

  13. hmmm. i’ve been thinking about that. i agree with gravity. then people can “defy gravity”. or i guess maybe one about the dress code at my school. even though i’d get in trouble if i left the house in anything that goes against the dress code!

  16. How about:

“A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips”
    “What goes around, comes around”

Personally I’d go for breaking the “There are only 24 hours in the day” rule (which is possible if we are also breaking the law of gravity, no?)

  19. The thing about lengthening the day, though, is that we, as busy human beings, would just find more things to fill the extra hours with. It’s a never-ending cycle.

  22. the rule that says you’re not supposed to walk up to people and punch them when you’re angry at them.. you have to ‘work things out’

    i’m not the greatest worker-outer.

  25. Hm, I think I should clarify. I love learning and knowledge, but most of the homework we get is just busy work. It doesn’t really help you learn anything. So I’d only copy those type of works. 🙂

  28. Funny you should ask

Hey Laurie! Yesterday we had to put our beloved lab to sleep after 13 years of memories. Bailey was very sick with cancer, but still played like he was a puppy (My friend Laura thinks he had dementia too). It was a very sad day (still is). It was comforting to know that we could “make it better” by putting him to sleep so he could chase those balls in heaven. So the rule I would break is that when a person is terminally ill and suffering, we could have the choice to put them to sleep so they could be free of pain and suffering. Yet that would be a VERY hard decision to make too. Much harder than it was with Bailey. Why is that? Conflicting.

I’m so sorry for your loss. That can be devastating. And I agree with your choice. I think we are inching towards allowing people to decide this for themselves. Tricky ground to walk on, but I think it is important to talk about.
