I hate reality on rainy Mondays

*caution – sighing and pouting ahead*

The weekend was a blast. We laughed, we ate, we made fun of each other, we walked the dog – perfect family get-together. The only problem was that it ended. Stef went back to college last night. BH and the CWF have to leave today. I’m on my way to New Jersey to sign books at the wholesalers’ warehouses. Tomorrow morning I get back on an airplane for Prom Tour, Pt. 2.

I really wish this could have been an eight-day weekend. I don’t like it when everybody has to leave.

If any of you live in North Carolina, come out and play tomorrow. Here’s the schedule:

3pm Regulator Bookshop, 720 9th Street, Durham, NC 919-286-2700

7:00 – 9:00 PM Quail Ridge Books, 3522 Wade Ave, Raleigh, NC, 919-828-1588

Wednesday is Connecticut.

What else? It’s raining. Oh – Michigan St. played an amazing game and beat Kentucky last night.

And for the third year in a row, I forgot where I hid all the Easter eggs. I’m not too worried. I’m moving out of here in four months. It will turn up when we’re packing.

  4. I felt decidedly undecided waking up to rain this morning. On the one hand, I love rainy Mondays. Perfect setting to not have to do anything but read or write. OTOH, it was sad to see such a beautiful sunny weekend come to an end after a long, snowy winter.

Where in CT will you be? I’ll send my nieces.

  7. I really wish I could go to one of the North Carolina ones, but I’m way over here in Wilmington and I have an interview tomorrow so my schedule’s very up in the air.

  10. A four-month old Easter egg can’t smell any worse than the goldfish (Spot) I “buried” in a Sucrets box and kept on my shelf for all of third grade. Have fun in NC. It’s my fourth-favorite state.

  13. On Wednesday, I’ll be at Dandy Tales in New Canaan from 3-5pm, and at Dinae’s Books in Greenwich from 7-9pm. If they can make it, tell them to please introduce themselves!

  16. That is an awesome story. Was there any lingering smell of Sucrets? I love the old smell of Sucrets (I think they’ve changed the formula – smells different now.) If they made an old-Sucrets smell perfume, I’d wear it.

Can you list your favorite states in order? Wow. Must think about this.

  19. The best thing about Sucrets was the aluminum box. Those, and the old aluminum Band-Aid boxes. I kept my rubber bouncy balls for playing jacks in the latter, and Spot in the former. Plastic boxes just aren’t the same. The Sucrets boxes were sort of like Altoid boxes, for all you youngsters who are going, “Suc-whats?” That’s prounounced “sooo-krets,” BTW, lest you think we all admired something pronounced “suck-rets.”

    I think:
CA – Because I grew up there
UT – Because I live there now and it seems disloyal not to include it
    NY – Because of Manhattan
NC – Because all my aunts live there
    IL – Because of Chicago
PA – Because it’s one of the only other states I’ve been to, plus my dad is from there.

    I haven’t thought beyond PA.

Very observant! I was an exchange student (in Denmark) my entire senior year of high school. I also think the image system of feeling like a foreigner in an unfamiliar country applies to the way some kids feel in school. Glad you liked the book.

  28. I’d live it, as well! It’s great just getting replies from you on LJ, but to see you here in Vegas; I think I might die of happiness!
