WHAT THE #$%&?????

Attention all Philly-area lovers of rock and roll:

Y100 is dead. They killed one of the best radio stations ever. Y100 goes off the air tonight.

ARGH!!!!! How can do this? What are they thinking?? And who are THEY??? I want their numbers. I want them to call me up and sing to me when I am writing. No, I want them to pay Dave Matthews to sing to me when I’m writing. OMG – how am I going to write without Y100???

(off to sob uncontrollably)

Go here to vent and mourn and sign the petition to bring THEM to their senses!

Rally, troops, rally. We will beat the corporate fiends back into their holes! I want my Y100!!

NOOO! But they just can’t do that? No Y100????? This is madness!!!!! What a great week! First I found out Blink 182’s on a hiatus and now this????? <--- sarcasm. I even have their station programed on my parents' cars, does anyone know how long it took me to figure that out?! Gosh, I think the world's endding.

  7. NOOOO

Whoa what?! When did this happen?! Now I’m sobbing these emo tears of mine.

On Thursday, February 24, 2005, 100.3fm, WPLY, Y100, was taken off the air. After nearly 12 years at 100.3, Alternative Rock disappeared from the Philadelphia radio landscape.

Wait, but it’s still there. I just it say, “Thanks is Y100. WPLY…blah blah blah.” So utterly confused…

  10. Do you remember when Eagle 106 went off the air? Y100 was up and running within a week.

Fret not. Another station will spring into its place.

In the meantime, listen to 88.5 WXPN. It’s GOOOOOD.

  13. As a college student who just attended a crazy spoken word anti-establishment performance (by the awesome Alix Olson, I suggest you all go have a looksee) I feel obligated to comment: Y100 IS corporate fiends. If it’s on mainstream radio, it’s corporate and fiendish.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. 😉

  16. Good point, Stef. I guess the question is which corporate crap do I want to listen to. My comfort zone is the corporate crap of Y100.

And yes, I’ve been through this a number of times over the years. It still burns me. And while XPN plays nice music, I need to rock hard sometimes, and they never seem to do that when I need it.

This is going to drive me to my iPod. I’ll start talking to myself in public, making one of those fake smooth DJ voices. People will call the police. I am doomed.

  19. You make it sound like the iPod is a bad thing! I would die without mine.

See, in NYC, we haven’t had a good radio station in probably 10-15 years. Sure, in parts of town you can pick up Fordham’s college station, which (at least years ago) used to be good, and there was a station broadcasting from the Jersey Shore that i liked, but could never pull in reliably out in Brooklyn. But for the most part, crap city.

With my iPod, I don’t ever have to hear lame commercials, lamer songs, or stupid DJ chatter. Give in to the pull of your iPod! (Not to mention it’s the best excuse in the world to buy music like mad.)
