Let the game begin!

Just tuned in for the last of the pre-game show… Gretchen Wilson and Charlie Daniels!!! I love them both!! And the Black-Eyed Peas are coming soon, after more stupid cellphone, car, and beer commercials. What I wouldn’t give to be kicking up my heels on that field!

Go, Eagles, go.

Come on, guys… One team, one city, one dream!

  1. Hello, Laurie!

    Hey there.

I am embarrassed to be contacting you like this, but in honor of the Eagles scoring, I’ve decided to get over my nerves and leave a comment. I don’t know if you remember me — Tierney? You came for a visit to my schools about two years ago; I’m quite sure it’s a better memory for me than it is for you. I got some valuable vocational advice, and you helped a lot of the kids. But the director of the agency was a piece of work. He almost fired me at the end of your stay, and I know he wasn’t at all pleasant to you. You’ll be happy (I think) to know that he was unceremoniously dismissed less than a year later — something to do with finances . But the damage was already done. Ten of us lost our jobs, and I hear the agency is closing its doors. Proof positive that one big jerk really can make a difference in this world.

I had already planned on leaving anyway. I was so disgusted with how the whole thing went down that if Andy hadn’t been in school, I would have quit right after you left. As it was, I hung on until the following May. The lay-offs happened at the perfect time; I got a whole summer to spend out on the lake. I woke up at 5:30 every morning and wrote, wrote, wrote. I actually have a BOOK!!!! Sort of…it’s still in progress.

Andy and I moved downstate and we’re both working on our Masters. I love being back in school, and I’m thrilled at the prospect of being a middle school teacher (English, of course). I’m already plotting exciting projects, and I have taken a solemn vow not to overanalyze Hawthorne. I’m the Vice President of the New York State Coalition of Sexual Assault — a position I owe to “Speak.” I’m volunteering for Rape Crisis here. Continually amazed by the strength of the human soul, and proud that I can be of some small comfort to victims of sexual crime. I’m sure you won’t be surprised to learn that I talk about “Speak” with the teens who need our services. Most of them tell me that they’ve already read it, and it’s one of their favorites. Melinda has touched a lot of lives.

Anyway, I just wanted to send my greetings. I think of you and — what are you calling him? Dear Husband? — because the chickadees sing to me as I’m leaving for class. Wish I could call them down! I’m sorry that things went the way they did — I wanted so badly to do this amazing thing with your book, and it went straight to hell. I really had to work hard to let go of my bitterness. As you can see, I’ve been dazzlingly successful at it.

But thank you, thank you, thank you — for everything you did, and for what you continue to do. I listened to the advice you gave me. I stopped “shoulding” and started *doing*. It is working. My story kicks butt; I can’t wait to finish it, and polish it, and send it out to dance. I have high hopes, but whatever happens, I’m already happy with it. You came along at the right moment and added the perfect fuel to my fire. So I guess that makes you a Catalyst!

Sorry this is so long (I know you aren’t surprised by this, if you remember anything at all about me). I’m going to watch the half-time show now, so you take care. Say “hi” to DH. If you’d like to respond, you can visit my journal. I’m at http://www.trants.blogspot.com.

    GO EAGLES!!!!!
